Alyssa Headshot.jpg

Alyssa Bunce is a multidisciplinary artist, graduated from the DEC program of the National Circus School (Tiohtià:ke / Mooniyang / Montreal, Quebec) in 2019, becoming the first student originating from the Canadian territories (Kwanlin Dün traditional territory / Whitehorse, Yukon) to graduate from the NCS.  The foundational mediums of her performing arts practice include Aerial Hoop, Contortion, Acrobatics, and (physical) theatre. In 2017 Alyssa began researching her original aerial concept, using 3 Aerial Hoops collectively, which she premiered internationally in 2023 (Berlin).  Alyssa has collaborated with acclaimed contemporary circus companies, and is currently dedicated to the durational solo work "Our Lady of the Home" which she conceptualized and performs. Coexisting and blending with her devotion to the performing arts, Alyssa sustains both poetic and visual arts practices.   Across the mediums she engages in, her subject matter commonly explores feminist philosophies, spirituality, and myth.

Trained traditionally in contortion, Alyssa uses the distortion of the human form as a surreal device of expression and a unique  performative language.

Graduating as an Aerial Hoop specialist (NCS, 2019) Alyssa has developed a stylized, statuesque approach to the discipline, tailoring her research to both conceptual and commercial projects.
